"They may be small of stature but the Tannoys have a huge sonic heart." What Hi-Fi Sound & Vision magazine.
The Tannoy Revolution DC4 speakers may indeed be small of stature but that doesn't prevent them from creating a very spacious soundstage. Making use of Tannoy's famous Dual Concentric drive units, the DC4 sounds exceptionally open and spacious. By placing the tweeter within the throat of the main woofer, the Revolution DC4 gives a single point source for critical high and mid-range frequencies. The result is a consistency and realism of vocals that you'd be hard pushed to find from many rivals. The tweeter itself is a titanium dome unit that gives exceptional detail without sounding brash or harsh. The woofers use conventional pulp paper with long throw surrounds for effortless power. Although you're not going to get masses of bass depth from a speaker of this size, the bass that it does produce is fast paced and very well integrated with the rest of the mix.
Helping to give the drive units the very best of support, the cabinets are of exceptional quality for the class. The trapezoidal shape breaks up internal standing waves for a less boomy and boxy sound. The cabinets are also extremely well braced making them very rigid. As a whole the cabinets provide less musical colouration than many rivals and play their part in making the Tannoy Revolution DC4s sound very natural and free from distortion.
With the Tannoy Revolution DC4, much of the beauty is in the detail. Silver-plated cable and chromed cable connections offer a long-lasting and low resistance connection, right up to the drive units. The crossover features low loss, laminated inductors and audiophile grade polypropylene capacitors. This quality of componentry would usually be reserved for much more expensive speakers and helps give the Tannoy's their open and transparent sound.
Finished in a smart 'Espresso' veneer, that contrasts well with the silver drive units, the DC4's look every bit as smart and refined as their musical presentation.
If you're after a pair of speakers for a small room but don't want to have to compromise on sound quality, the Tannoy Revolution DC4s make an ideal choice.
