The perfect match for a Vector system but also ideal as an upgrade for a basic 5.1 speaker set-up, the Monitor Audio V20 is a flexible centre speaker.
Unlike many 5.1 speaker systems that use the same speaker design all-round, the Vector V20 is a dedicated centre speaker. It uses a larger, horizontal cabinet with front bass porting, giving it the necessary characteristics for clear and precise dialogue.
Using the same tweeter as the Bronze range, the V20 starts with an enormous advantage. The C-CAM (Ceramic Coated Aluminium Magnesium) gold tweeter has an extended frequency response that stretches to beyond 30 kHz. Whilst this may be well above our audible spectrum it does have a positive effect on the sound; lower notes that we can hear aren't compressed downwards or harmonically compromised. In short, the treble response is smooth, sweet and detailed. Matching this class-leading tweeter is a Metal Matrix Polymer bass cone. Again, much better than average, this bass cone offers a clear and articulate mid-range with enough bass for the speakers not to sound tinny. Finally, the woofer is held in place using a single, bolt-through design that's also shared with more expensive Monitor Audio speakers. This helps reduce cabinet resonance and gives the speaker a cleaner sound.
It's not just the sound quality that marks the Vector V20 out, it's the style, too. Finished in a 'soft touch' rubberised black skin, the speaker looks and feels far more sophisticated than most. It's practical, too. With the surface being non-slip, it's easy to place on a shelf above or below your TV. Alternatively, a single point fixing also allows the V20 to be neatly wall mounted using a variety of brackets.
Small, smart and sophisticated. The Vector V20 comes highly recommended.
| Magnetically Shielded | Is it magnetically shielded? Allows the speaker to be placed near a TV without the risk of screen damage | |
| Sensitivity (dB) | The higher this figure is the easier the speaker is to drive and, hence, requires a less powerful amplifier | 85 |
| Impedance (ohms) | Resistance. A standard figure is 8ohms | 8 |
| Bi-wireable | Is it bi-wirable? Separate earthing cables for tweeter and woofer units - gives a more precise sound when used with bi-wire cable | |
| Power Rating (Watts) | Maximum power output long term/short term (RMS) | 80 |
| Dimensions | Dimensions of speaker cabinet (W x D x H) in mm | 355 x 170 x 145 |
