The Mordaunt Short Aviano follows on from the enormously successful Avant range and features a raft of technical enhancements from the Mordaunt Short Performance speakers.
The Mordaunt Short Aviano 6 is floorstanding speaker that has been designed to combine the thrilling dynamics of a larger speaker with the precision and detail of a smaller one. Featuring the latest generation CPC (Continuous Profile Cone) aluminium woofers, the Aviano 6 has that characteristic detail and crispness throughout the mid-range and bass. Helping the sonic precision and dynamic response even further is a new woofer brace. This internal cabinet bracing not only strengthens the cabinet but also supports the woofers, allowing them to perform to their very best ability. Mordaunt Short has paid particular attention to driver matching for a more cohesive sound. For this reason, the aluminium tweeter features a revised mounting plate for a more seamless integration with the mid-range woofer. The cabinet itself is incredibly rigid for this class of speaker, internally braced and made from high density MDF. It gives the drive units the best support possible and manages not to contribute its own "voice" to the sound quality in a detrimental way. As you'd expect, a high quality, bi-wirable crossover features that enables you to improve the sound still further.
In terms of sound quality, the Aviano 6 is punchy yet taut with a fast, pacey sound that's rare in many floorstanding competitors. The bass reaches down low but it's never "boomy". Ideal as powerful stereo speakers or making up the fronts of a home cinema speaker system, the Mordaunt Short Aviano 6 is a great all-rounder.

"A fine all-rounder, with power and bass in spades, and plenty more besides. The uninitiated may find it hard to believe, but £600 for a pair of floorstanding speakers is a fairly meagre amount. You can find the odd set for a similar price or less, but you certainly won't find any that look as immaculate or feel as well engineered as Mourdaunt Short's Aviano 6s. There's a lot of speaker here, and the attentive design and 'soft organic contours' make these UK-engineered units extremely easy on the eye. Far from just pretty faces, the 6s incorporate a tweeter that benefits from technological advances made for Mordaunt-Short's Performance Series. They also harbour two of the company's latest 6.25in mid/bass drivers. If the build and design wasn't enough of a statement, the sound certainly is. That's not to say it's overpowering; rather it helps helps to provide a solidity and presence that even the best standmounts just can't muster." - What Hi-Fi? Sound & Vision magazine |
