If you're looking for a great-sounding system with up-to-the-minute features and top quality build, then you can't beat the Arcam Solo Neo at this price. Throughout the Neo you'll find quality engineering that sets it apart from lesser systems. This not only makes it a joy to use but also a pleasure to listen to.
Audiophile components include twin toroidal transformers. These supply stable power and help give the Solo Neo a dynamic sound that's capable of producing a powerful 75 watts per channel (at 4 ohms). Other features that are usually only reserved for expensive hi-fi separates include nine, independently regulated power supplies, oversized heat sink (fanless), independent processor power feed and 4mm binding posts for the connection of quality speaker cable. When taken as a whole, these features ensure that, whatever the source, the Solo Neo gives an expansive sound quality with all the richness and detail you'd expect from Arcam.
As you'd expect, the built-in CD is also pretty special. With a 24-bit Wolfson DAC and Low jitter Colpitts crystal clock, CD's now sound even more precise and dynamic than the already impressive original Arcam Solo. For added convenience the Solo Neo also features CD text to allow you to see track and album information on the large and clear display.
Where Arcam tradition meets new world tech is with the network audio player. With a built-in Ethernet socket and wireless receiver, the Solo Neo opens up a whole new area of music possibilities. Capable of playing WAV, MP3, AAC, WMA and FLAC files, you can easily stream music stored on your PC, laptop or NAS drive, via your home network to the Solo Neo. In addition to being able to stream your own stored music, the Solo Neo also gives you access to a massive range of internet radio services. In addition to this, the USB socket allows you to connect up memory sticks or hard drives, directly, for even greater access to stored digital music.
Along with the CD player, streaming and USB interface, Arcam have also provided a top quality DAB and FM tuner. Should you wish to add further sources there are no fewer than five line level inputs, including a front panel mini jack for the connection of an MP3 player. Should you use an iPod or iPhone then the optional Arcam rDock is also fully controllable via the Solo Neo's remote.
The extensive list of features continues with a second room zone with independent volume, pre-amp output for the use of another power amp, optical output for digital recording from CD and DAB radio and adjustable bass equalisation.
Finished to a very high standard, the Solo Neo uses an all metal casing with aluminium lid. The dot matrix display is comprehensive and easy to read - even from a distance away. Finally, the entire unit has a quality feel with precise buttons and a sturdy feel.
